Fyde Treasury Protocol is a trustless treasury management protocol that helps DAOs diversify their treasuries with minimal impact on native token prices while also reserving governance rights.
The Brief
I worked on Fyde at two different stages.
Initial UX work pre-launch: user journey, ideation, and wireframes
UX audit 18 months later: expert review, heuristic analysis
Initial UX Work
After reviewing the docs, I was able to quickly work out a user journey and two different ways of crafting the app around it.
User Flows
Wireframes
Option 1
Option 2
Rapid Iteration
From here, we were able to iterate on the basic ideas and add more screens and functions as the project came to life.
We went with the DEX view and improved the functions over successive iterations with some rapid user testing.
Development
My role was to quickly work out the UX and deliver:
user flows
wireframes
information architecture
pros and cons
After the completion of mid-fidelity wireframes, the project was handed over to a UI designer and the team developed and launched the project in November 2023.
Expert Review (18 months later)
I was asked back to audit Fyde once they were up and running, as the project had evolved slightly and they wanted fresh eyes on their usability.
What I did
I reviewed the protocol according to various criteria, including Nielsen’s Usability Heuristics, my own set of Web3 Usability Heuristics, and several checklists for DeFi that I created for DeFi reviews.
I then ranked my findings into Low, Medium and High.
My findings
Who is the user? - Medium
Slightly confused messaging on the home page.
UI consistency - Low
This often happens over time as more icons and more text styles are added.
Contextual help - Medium
The quick guide can be implemented better. More tooltips.
Streamline user flows - Medium
The journey is slightly disjointed in a couple of places.
Too many colours and signifiers - Medium
Quite a lot going on. Can distract the eye. Hard to tell importance.
Example of Markup
I did my markup in Figma, and shared screenshots with the team. I also shared the full Figma. This was a very lightweight and effective way of presenting my findings..
I also provided (several variations of) a possible solution to this issue:
Results
The team:
Improved messaging
Made their symbol set consistent
Added tooltips
Streamlined user flows
Simplified their usage of colours
I consider this a successful UX review and a good example of the kind of value that can be generated very quickly when working with a trained UX professional with experience of DeFi.
